TIKI Tuesday- Happy Chinese New Year, here's some spam.
In celebration of the Lunar New Year my school gave me a nice big box of spam/ham. While I appreciate the gesture, I for one am not a fan of spam/ham and am trying to cut meat out of my life as it is. Not wanting it to go to waste, I gave it to the little lady who runs U9 (one of my favorite Korean restaurants in Song-chon) with her husband. I absolutely love the U9 lady. Everytime I see her she greets me with a huge smile and waves exaggeratedly. She almost cried when I gave her the spam/ham. You have to meet this lady. She's ace.
Who knew a block of spam/ham could bring such happiness?
We celebrated the Lunar New Year during the kindergarten hours today. It was the first time I've seen my kids dressed in their hanboks (traditional Korean attire). Adorable.
Rose class: Evan, Rania, Jenny
"Elllliiiiiiizabeth Teaaaaaaaaacher!"
The kids had to take turns bowing to Mr. Lee (the main guy who runs our hagwon). In return they were given cookies. Not a bad exchange if you ask me.
You can't tell me you wouldn't want to smuggle this cute little face home.
Becky
Making mandu (a Korean dumpling filled with vegetables and minced meat).
"Ne, ne seon-saeng-nim!" Translation: "Yes, yes, teacher!"
The pro, our cook. This lady is hilarious, she's always chuckling crazily to herself. Probably thinking, Today I'm going to make the foreigners eat fish eyeball soup, eh heh heh!
My silly girls.
Alice being ladylike.
Playing a traditional Korean game that involves throwing sticks. I didn't really understand, but the kids love it.
Not the correct way to play.
This boy is so cute with his permed (perm-AH) hair. He cracked me up because the whole time we were playing games he wouldn't stop jumping.
Spoon/egg race. Sally is probably the most beautiful little girl I have ever seen.
Still jumping.
The kids played a game where they had to jump on one foot and try to knock each other over. Hilarious!
AND jumping!
Kindergarten teachers with our graduating classes. Nice little awkward photo.
I have the next three days off from school. I'm hanging out with the monks at a temple in Gyeong-ju until Friday. After that who knows where I'll go...Muju? Seoul? Busan? Stay tuned.

i love the awkward kindergarten photo. for some reason, jumping boy reminds me of david sax. little sally is a pumpkin! your hair is getting so long and pretty. i must meet your cook.
Although ramen and noodles are abundant in Korea, I now realize that my blog name would be more accurate if it was "the real rice" or "the real kimchi" or even "the real soju," but those names don't roll off the tongue quite as nicely as "the real ramen," now do they?
